This course provides PhD candidates with novel concepts and methodologies to enhance the potential of their research to actively engage with addressing global sustainability issues. This course is taught by a range of scholars in University of Twente (UT), Utrecht University (UU), Wageningen University & Research (WUR), and Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) who guide participants through critical concepts, methodological innovations, and tricky dilemmas that have challenged and enabled their own efforts to shape policy and practice. The course focuses on exploring different approaches to transformative research in case studies around the world; developing skills to evaluate how key aspects of research design, implementation, analysis and communication may affect the contribution of research to addressing sustainability challenges; building knowledge, confidence and ability to apply transformative processes/methods in your own present and future research and navigate emerging challenges to maximize its beneficial impacts in a reflexive way; and connecting with a growing network of diverse researchers within and beyond UT, UU, WUR & SRC to further your inspiration and capability to undertake transformative research in collaboration with others.
